How can I transfer my domain if it is locked?

If a domain name is locked at the current provider then it cannot be transferred. In this case it is important that the current provider removes the lock from the domain, after which you can apply for a transfer another time.

You can check the so called WHOIS information if a transfer lock is active on the domain name. If the domain name has the status 'clientTransferProhibited', 'ServerTransferprohibited' or 'LOCKED', a transferlock will be active on your domain. You can then ask the current provider if it is possible to remove the lock.

    • Please note that for ICANN domains such as .com, .org, .net etc. there is a period of 60 days after registring a domain, modifying WHOIS information, or transferring a domain, in which it cannot be transfered.

    • A lock is only possible with generic domains such as .com .org .net etc. Country specific domains such as .nl don't allow for a transfer lock.

Transferring your domain to another provider

If your domain is already registered in our system, you can easily remove the lock status yourself using the Control Panel.

    Step 1

Log in to your controlepaneel, navigate to the 'Domain & Hosting' tab and click your domain name on the left.

    Step 2

Scroll down to 'Transfer Lock' and click 'Disable' behind it. You can now transfer your domain!
