    .us

On this page, you will find all the information about .us domains that you register with TransIP. .us is the TLD of the United States.

Please note that different registrars may have different procedures. If your domain is not registered with TransIP, please consult your own domain registrar.

    Registration

    • A .us domain can contain a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 63 characters.
    • Emojis are not available for .us domains. However, the use of special characters/punycode is possible. A comprehensive overview of which extensions allow which special characters can be found on the website of IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
    • .us domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year.
    • After registration, the domain can not be transferred for 60 days.
    • A .us domain can only be registered by:
      • A citizen or resident of the United States.
      • A company with a bona fide presence in the United States. This means the company or organisation has to be either based in the US, or be active in the US.

    Transfers

    • Transferring a .us domain is always done with a transfer code. You can always request this at your current registrar. More information about transferring your domain name can be found here.
    • Whenever a transfer is started, the owner of the domain will receive an email in which they need to confirm the transfer.
    • In order to transfer a .us domain, it needs to be older than 60 days.

    WHOIS

    • Valid WHOIS data is necessary for registrant email verification. You can change this data following the steps in this Knowledge Base article.
      • If the email verification is not successfully completed within 14 days, the domain will not be accessible until verification is done.
      • Email verification is per email address and not per domain. This means that if you have multiple domains with the same email address, you only need to perform the verification once.

    Other

    • When you cancel a .us domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 30 days. During these 30 days, the domain can still be restored. The domain becomes available for registration again 35 days after cancellation.
      • The registry charges fees for reactivating a domain, which we have to pass on to you.
    • You may use a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 13 nameservers for a .us domain.
