    .app

On this page, you will find all the information about .app domains that you register with TransIP. This is registry of .app, which is Google, requires that all websites hosted on this domain extension make use of HTTPS.

Please note that different registrars may have different procedures. If your domain is not registered with TransIP, please consult your own domain registrar.

    Registration

    • A .app domain may contain a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 63 characters.
    • Emojis are not available for .app domains. However, the use of special characters/punycode is possible. A comprehensive overview of which extensions allow which special characters can be found on the website of IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
    • .app domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year.

    Transfers

    • Transferring a .app domain is always done with a transfer code. You can always request this at your current registrar. More information about transferring your domain name can be found here.
    • The owner/registrant of the domain will receive an email which allows you to accept or decline the transfer.
      • If the transfer is accepted, the transfer will take place immediately.
      • If the transfer is declined, the transfer will not take place.
      • If the transfer is neither accepted nor declined, the transfer will take place after 5 days.

    WHOIS

    • You can update all WHOIS data of your domain via the control panel. Follow the steps in the article 'Changing the registrant (owner) of your domain name'.
    • .app domain registrations are not tied to a region or country and can therefore be registered worldwide.

    Other

    • When you cancel a .app domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 30 days. During these 30 days, the domain can still be restored. After the 30-day period, the domain can not be restored for 5 days, after which the domain becomes available for registration again.
      • The registry charges fees for reactivating a domain, which we have to pass on to you.
    • You may use a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 13 nameservers for a .app domain.
    • HTTPS is mandatory for websites hosted on a .app domain.
