It may happen that your Windows VPS indicates that it is not activated. For example, you will see one of the following notifications:

Enter a product key
Your product key should be on the box that the Windows DVD came in or in an email that shows you bought Windows.

Go to System in Control Panel to activate Windows
Cause and solution
This usually happens when there has been a problem with the communication with the KMS server (which controls the activation) during the installation of Windows.
You can solve this by manually performing the activation by executing the following commands in PowerShell (or cmd as administrator) in the Windows Server environment:
slmgr /skms kms.vps.transip.nl slmgr /ato
Please note that you have not blocked port 1688 for TCP traffic, because that is the port the KMS server wants to connect to.
