OpenStack is an open-source solution for hosting your own public cloud environment. TransIP offers OpenStack through the Public Cloud product.
A virtual data center is a simple yet accurate description of OpenStack: OpenStack manages a large pool of hardware resources (CPU cores and RAM), storage, and networking resources, presenting them in the form of a virtual data center. Unlike our VPS platform, with OpenStack, you manage not only a virtual server but also the underlying virtual network architecture, and you can create as many VPSes as your resources allow.
You can manage OpenStack through an SDK or the OpenStack dashboard called Horizon. Horizon is a web interface that allows you to create virtual servers, among other tasks. Additionally, OpenStack supports numerous third-party services like Kubernetes, CloudFoundry, and Terraform.
OpenStack is divided into services, allowing you to add components via 'plug and play' based on your needs. OpenStack is considered the future of cloud computing: it's incredibly flexible and can be used for any imaginable use case.
A notable example of an OpenStack user is Blizzard Entertainment, which uses OpenStack to automatically scale server capacity for the game Overwatch.
