    .be

.be is the domain extension of Belgium and is managed by DNS Belgium. Domain extenstions for countries are called country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD).

On this page, you will find all the information about .be domains that you register with TransIP. Please note that different registrars may have different procedures. If your domain is not registered with TransIP, please consult your own domain registrar.

    Registration

    • A .be domain can contain a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 63 characters.
    • Emojis are not available for .be domains. However, the use of special characters/punycode is possible. A comprehensive overview of which extensions allow which special characters can be found on the website of IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
    • .be domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year.

    Transfers

    • The authorisation code of a .be domain is sent to the email address of the curent holder of the domain as soon as a transfer has been requested.
      • This means you request a transfer at the new registrar without an authorisation code first. Once received, you can confirm the tranfser with the authorisation code. More information about this can be found here.
    • If you receive the error message 'Data management policy violation', it menas that the transfer code has been requested too many times (a maximum of 4 times in the past 7 days). This is a restriction from DNS Belgium, which we have no influence on.
      • Do you already have the authorisation code? Please contact our support department, they will help you enter the authorization code.
      • Do you not have the authorisation code yet? You can then try to change the email address of the domain owner and then request the transfer again.

    WHOIS

    • Changing the name or company name of the holder/registrant will cost €10 excl. VAT (€12,10 incl VAT). This is because the register charges fees for these changes. Other WHOIS information can be changed free of charge. More information about changing owner details via your control panel can be found here.
      • When you change the name or company name of the holder/registrant in your control panel, you will receive a message that there are costs involved.
      • As soon as you accept this and have paid, you will receive an authorisation code by email from the Belgian register to confirm the owner change. You can enter this in your control panel afterwards to complete the change.
    • .be domains are not tied to a country or region and are therefore available for registration worldwide.

    Other

    • When you cancel a .be domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 40 days. During these 40 days, the domain can still be restored. After the 40-day period, the domain becomes available for registration again. The registry charges fees for reactivationg domains, which is why the costs for reactivating are:
      • For .BE domains previously registered at TransIP: €50,- excl. VAT (€60,50 incl. VAT).
      • For .BE domains registered with another provider: €100,- excl. VAT (€121,- incl. VAT).
