Sorry, we could not find any results for your search querry.

My domain shows the status 'Redemption Period or 'Registrar Hold' in WHOIS, what does that mean?

A domain will be put into Quarantaine or Redemption Period status when the domain was active but has been recently cancelled.

The Redemption Period is a period of time which has been set by the registry in which only the registrant of the domain can retrieve this domain. Seeing that this process is not automated, and there are costs involved with the registry, we are obliged to charge a significant fee for the reactivation of the domain.

Below, you will find a summary of the reactivation costs per extension:

    • For .NL, .BE domains who were registered at TransIP:
€50,- excl. VAT (€60,50 incl. VAT)

    • For .NL, .BE domains who were registered at another provider:
€100,- excl. VAT (€121,- incl. VAT)

    • For .EU domains:
€50,- excl. VAT (€60,50 incl. VAT)

    • For .COM, .NET, .INFO, .ORG, .BIZ domains (only possible if they were registered at TransIP):
€100,- excl. VAT (€121,- incl. VAT)

    • For all other extensions the costs can vary. Contact our support through the control panel for more information.

If you decide you would like us to reactivate the domain for you, we need your approval for the costs of the reactivation. Furthermore we require certain documents that prove you are the official domain registrant or that you are authorized to act on behalf of the domain registrant. The registry can always ask us for these documents, and we need to be able to provide these documents.

    Necessary documents:

    • In the case that the domain was registered to a individual, a Copy ID will suffice. You can make the photo and social security number unrecognizable on the copy ID.
    • In the case that the domain was registered to a company, a Copy of Chamber of Commerce Commercial Register extract, not older than 3 months.
    • Copy ID for the authorized person registered in the copy of Chamber of Commerce Commercial Register extract as an independent signatory. You can make the photo and social security number unrecognizable on the copy ID.

In the case that you are not the registrant of the domain, but you are authorized to act on his/her behalf:

    • Document that states that the official registrant of the domain authorizes you to act on his/her behalf.
    • Copy ID of the owner of the TransIP account that the domain was active in. You can make the photo and social security number unrecognizable on the copy ID.

You can send these documents to our support through the control panel. As soon as we receive the needed documents we can reactivate the domain for you.

Does it concern a .nl domain name that was not previously registered with TransIP?

In that case we cannot see who the registrant of the domain name is. The registry SIDN does not give providers access to the registrant details of a .nl domain name that is in quarantine at another provider.

If you are the registrant of the domain name you can can request the non-public registrant details from SIDN. To do so, send an email to support@sidn.nl with the request. Make sure to add the email address and the postal code of the registrant as verification.

After verifying, SIDN will respond with the WHOIS information. It is important to send a screenshot of this to our support department when you contact them for the reactivation of a .NL domain that was not previously registered with TransIP

If you do not wish to reactivate the domain, you can choose to wait until the domain is no longer in Quarantine and is free for registration again. After the domain is free again the first person to register the domain with a provider will be the new owner.

For .nl domains you can see when the domain will be free for registration again by doing a WHOIS search at SIDN.nl (the .nl registry).

For other extensions this is, in most cases, not possible. However, the quarantine period will almost always last ±35 days. After these ±35 days the domain will once again be free for registration.

Keep in mind that you will then be at risk of losing the domain if someone registers the domain faster than you.

In this article we have explained how a domain name with the status Quarantine or Redemption Period can be reactivated.
