What should I do if my current registrar is rejecting to transfer a domain to TransIP?

A registrar (provider) is at all times obligated to provide the authorization code to the lawful owner (the registrant) of a domain name within 5 days.

If you are the registrant, or authorized to sign on behalf of the registrant, then you can request the authorization code from your current provider. If the provider refuses to provide you with the authorization code you an consider starting an escalation procedure.

It depends on the TLD of the domain name whether an escalation procedure is possible for the domain name:

    • For .nl domain names an escalation procedure is possible
    • For .be domain names, the authorization code can be requested via the registry DNSBelgium.be
    • For .eu domain names, the transfer code can be requested via the registry EURid.eu
    • For other TLD's such as .com domain names, there is unfortunately no escalation procedure from the registries. For those TLD's we can only offer an escalation procedure if the domain is already registered with us.

The registrant of the domain name

To check whether you are the registrant of the domain name, you can look in the so-called WHOIS information. In some cases, the registrant can be found there. However in many cases the registrant details are protected by the registry and therefore not shown in the public WHOIS information. For more information see: What is WHOIS?

For a .nl domain name you can request the non-public registrant details of your own domain name from the registry SIDN. For more information about how to do this, see: requesting the non-public registrant details, see: Where do I find the registrant (owner) of my .nl domain name?.

    The escalation procedure

If the current provider does not cooperate in providing the authorization code, please contact our support department via the 'Contact' button in your control panel or via the e-mail address support@transip.nl. They will inform you about what is needed for the escalation procedure.
