.nu

.nu is the domain extension associated with the Polynesian island Niue. The extension is popular because it means "immediately" in Dutch, Danish, and Swedish. Because of this, the extension is managed by the Swedish registry Internetstiftelsen.

Registration

• To register a .nu domain, you are required to provide an identification number that can be verified with a government agency.
  • If the registrant is a company, this is a Chamber of Commerce registration number.
  • If the registrant is a person, this is a passport number.

• A .nu domain may contain a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 63 characters.
• Emojis are not available for .nu domains. However, the use of special characters/punycode is possible. A comprehensive overview of which extensions allow which special characters can be found on the website of IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
• .nu domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year
• A .nu domain can not be transferred for 60 days after registration or a transfer.

Transfers

• The transfer of a .nu domain is always done with a transfer code. You can always request this at your current registrar. More information about transferring your domain name can be found here.
• Once the correct transfer code is used, the transfer will take place almost immediately.
• After transferring, a .nu domain can not be transferred again within 60 days.

WHOIS

• Changing the owner details of a .nu domain can not be done automatically, so it has to be done manually by us. You can contact us via the 'Contact us' button below. This procedure is €50,- excl. VAT (€60,50 incl. VAT).
  • A change of address/email address can be done free of charge. But this still has to be done manually by our supporters.
• Correct WHOIS details are mandatory becuase of email verification of the domain owner/registrant.
  • When the email verification is not completed succesfully, the domain will become unreachable until verification is completed.
  • The email verification is per email address and not per domain. This means that whenever you use several domains with the same email address, you only have to verify once.
• WHOIS details are automatically hidden for a .nu domain.
• .nu domain registrations are not bound to a country or region and can therefore be registered worldwide.

Other

• When you cancel a .nu domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 60 days. During these 60 days, the domain can still be restored. After the 60-day period, the domain becomes available for registration again.
  • The register charges fees for reactivating domains which is why there are costs involved.
• You can use a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 nameservers for a .nu domain.
